1st day of school

Did you notice the superhero theme with the clothes they picked to wear the first day?

Well- we had a little welcome home party/family meeting after school. 

They dressed up in their superhero dress up clothes, ate some super snacks, and played this POW game.  They punched through the tissue to get to a question about their day they had to answer.  It was a big hit.

A very simple little “party” and it made them feel like 100 bucks.  Would I have liked to have superhero balloons, a banner, and other decorations?  Yes.  But timing wasn’t quite right for all of that to happen yesterday.  They loved what I could throw together at home though. 

Afternoon Family Meeting:

One thing we are doing differently this year is an afternoon family meeting.  We sit down together, have a snack, talk about the day, pray together, and look at the evening schedule to decide if homework needs to be done right away or if it can wait until after dinner.   Our first one of the school year was yesterday and it went really well.   I hope I can keep this consistent because it really helps the kids transition to the evening routine.

Spencer’s First Day of School

This is how we marked the days left of school starting 2 weeks ago.  Tomorrow is the big day for the other two kids so there’s only one lonely pencil in the jar.  We will spend the day going to Sammie’s school to walk through her schedule and catching up on laundry.  Fun!

August Back to School Celebrating

Thomas took a few days off last week so we could do some fun things around town with the kids and have my dad down to join us.  We went to Purina Farms and Castlewood State Park.  Saturday night was a cookout with friends and then Sunday night was a Back to School Bash- with our favorite people Uncle Brian and Aunt Laura and Meghan and James!  Oh, and some dancing puppies- but we’ll get to that later…

Oh and Sammie celebrated going back to school with a new hair cut.

We finished our girls afternoon at the salon with a trip down the street to the specialty chocolate store.  We were tempted by these mustaches, but a white chocolate swirl was what made the cut.

Sammie wasn’t sure she really wanted to milk the cow, but in the end she caved.

This cute guy sat right on Spencer’s lap for like 10 minutes.  He was in heaven.

Spencer loved the animals.  We got to pet a chicken, a baby pig, and this little fellow as well as a cow, horse, dogs, cats, and I don’t remember what else. 

To end the day we took a wagon ride.

We went to Castlewood State Park on the Meramec River on Friday.

 

 

Yes- it’s for sure a river.  Look at that water.  The kids loved it though.

Beach Ball

By far the favorite of the library summer reading program prizes.  I have to say it annoys the heck out of me.  Tyler is very protective and loves his giant green ball. 

Some Summer Fun

I’ve not taken a bunch of pictures from this summer.   Most of our summer has been spent at Aquaport- a fun water park near our house.  I did get a few cute ones of these two on the 4th of July. 

 

 

This cute girl came to visit with her family.  Somehow this one was the only dress up picture I could find.  They had a ball dressing her up in Sammie’s clothes.

Then my dad came down for father’s day weekend and we treated him to a classic car show in town.  This was Sammie’s favorite.  Love the wheels.

I think Tyler’s face says it all here.  Man he loved that car.

We also had a family reunion with these sweet people.  My side of the family came down to Aquaport and dinner one Saturday in July and we just had a great time together.  Wish I had more pictures.

We stopped at our mechanic on the way home to check out a real life Mater!  Parker loved it.

Then the oldest and youngest Burnett grandkids enjoyed a little tablet action at our house.  Sweet Ella just loves Spencer and he adores her.  Well, he lets her play with his fingernails so that’s an in with this doll. 

Spencer started aqua therapy- basically OT in the water.  He goes once a week in the afternoon and it’s been a lot of fun. He calls it “swim class”.
