THE CAKE! The star of the “Cake Boss Party”

P1000366

Ashley did an AMAZING job on the cake.  This was taken the night before the party when it was dropped off.

What?  It’s my birthday?!!  Yeah!

The reaction upon seeing the cake.  Worth all of the work.

Spencer wouldn’t wear one.  Can’t say I blame him.  These are the hats we made for Sammie’s birthday party.  More to come on that.

Our school district has an amazing strings program.  Sammie loves playing the Bass.  It’s hard to get her to practice because the thing is so big and difficult to manage, but she does a good job.

Goodbye April!

I'm happy to see the last of April. To be fair the beginning of April was pretty nice. After that it kinda went down hill. The most important event that happened was my Mom had a triple bypass surgery and came through it well and is recovering at home and doing amazing. I'm so proud of her and her dedication to being well again.

I was in Illinois for not quite a week at the hospital and came home to get sick with a stomach virus (got over it pretty quick) then Thomas got it, then Tyler got it and then Sammie got it. Thank goodness Spencer didn't get it- he can't afford to loose any weight. Tyler had it the worst and ended up in the hospital Friday night last week for overnight fluids.

Here's the strangest part of our adventure- the part where I still think- Did that REALLY happen?

Thomas and the big kids came to bring me some things to stay at the hospital more comfortably and I decided to take Sammie and Spencer down to the cafeteria. When I was getting my food and Sammie and Spencer were deciding on a dessert Spencer just put down his tray and decided to lay down on the floor of the cafeteria. When I noticed him I went to him to try to get him up and remind him that the floor was not a clean place to rest- blech! He couldn't support his own weight and slid back down to the floor and refused to get up.

Of course we are surrounded by doctors and nurses and nurse techs so he got immediate treatment. Also, because the issue happened at the hospital he was taken to the ER for evaluation. He's fine- probably just low blood sugar- but it was stressful having one kid in the ER and one in the Peds floor of the hospital!

Another funny part of the story is that when we were in line - with Spencer on the ground surrounded by doctors- Sammie was standing right next to a man who had a salad with a hard boiled egg in it. My completely irrational thought at the time was- I gotta get Sammie away from that egg!!! All I need is for her to go to the ER too because of an allergic reaction!

Anyhoo, everyone is better. Spencer scarfed a 10 piece chicken nugget meal from McDonnad's on the way home. Tyler came home from the hospital all better on Saturday and Sammie didn't get attacked by that egg. Sunday we vegged.

My stress level calmed a lot by getting out to see "Water for Elephants" last night with a friend.

Now I'm in prep mode for the best cake boss party ever for Saturday.

So far May is looking a lot better than April! Whew!

A Tylerism

Just a quick Tylerism to pass along for the final post today. It has been a busy few hours catching up on my blog that's for sure! I think this is a record number of posts for me all in one day. You actually have to go to the next page to see the first one I posted today. Whew. Don't expect much over the next month.

We were walking out of the orthodontist office and the assistant said "Have a great day!" and Tyler said: "My days are always great!" He's right. He is such a happy guy. I thought this was especially good of him to say after being so sick the day before.

Before, After, During

Sammie before:

Gotta love those facial expressions of hers.

Sammie After:

Braces came of today! Isn’t she beautiful? (yes, that is another bump on her head. She crashed into the buffet at my parent’s house. She needs to wear a helmet)

Here’s the during. They had way too much fun!

P1000346

AHHHHHHH!!!!!! (they did this to her before she got them on too. I’ll have to find the before pic and see if they look better!)

P1000344

Tyler’s before picture… orange tongue and all.

P1000350

She got this balloon and a water bottle filled with chewy candy from the doctor. She was super excited about this part! Bring on the caramel!

She ordered a lime green and hot pink glow in the dark retainer with sparkles! We'll have to post a picture of that when it comes in next week. Next round of braces will be in the next year or 2. I think those will be on for 2 more years. We'll enjoy the break!

The Invite

Sammie worked hard on designing these invitations for her friends with a little help from Aunt Alexis’ old scrapbooking stuff!

P1000351

She messed up the 7 on this one so she decided to keep it.  The blue paper is just to cover up the tier with our address and phone # on it.  She’s really big into block letters right now.
