A few stories about what it's like to be Tyler

It's always fun for us when our kids start having a good sense of humor. Tyler has had
some moments when he made me laugh out loud and I thought I'd share them.

1. As you know Spencer has had difficulty with eating for the last few months. We've
gotten to where we ask the kids to help him if they are eating a snack. Tyler and Spencer
were eating a snack recently and Tyler came to me and said how great it was, but when I
asked him if he helped Spencer he said "I don't want to talk about it." :)

2. It came up in the car yesterday that my birthday is soon. Tyler was concerned he hadn't
had a chance to get out shopping with Dad and asked if he could make me something. I told
him that for my birthday I would love for him to help Sammie clean the basement so we can
sit and watch a movie for my birthday night and if he and Sammie would not argue for
the whole day that would be present enough. Tyler: "I'll just buy you something."

Gotta love it.

a little bragging

If you can't brag about your kids on your own blog where can you do it??

OK, Let's start with Spencer:

Made High Honor roll at Northeast Middle and has made some progress with eating and behavior in the last few weeks. Small steps!

Sammie:

Straight A student again this term folks! Such joy this girl brings to our home. She also had a clay dragon named "The Satisfied Dragon" in the district art show last night. (Picture to come)

Tyler:

Registered for kindergarten! Parkway approved full day tuition free kindergarten starting next year so I will have all of my little ducks gone most of the day... scary. Tyler has mastered the letter "e" in his name (always tricky) and is on track to have all of his skills to be ready for K!

Side Note: Blog prob. won't go private until I get my other blog up and running. Don't worry about anything for a while. It's a slow process.

Quick Recipe Link up

I tried this meatloaf recipe when we were snowed in and Thomas and I really liked it. Spencer wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Tyler thought it looked like a gigantic meat ball and wouldn't eat more than a bite and it had eggs in it so it was a no go for Sammie who would rather not eat meat anyway. SO! It's a great grown up meal!

I'm thinking about

Birthday Parties

I have a few ideas for Spencer's birthday party coming up next month. This is his "on" year to have a kid party. We've usually not bothered with it because it is too overwhelming for him anyway and just did a family party, but this year I think he would like it. He has a friend from church, Joe, who recently moved into the ward and has taken a liking to and interest in Spencer. I thought about inviting him out to do an activity with us. The other thought is to invite all of the boys from his sunday school class. It would be 3 or so other boys.

Here are my ideas:

- the trampoline place- Sky Zone
- ice skating
- roller skating
- bowling- we did this once before with good success
- Nascar Speedway- although we think this might be a better summer activity since the 2 seater cars are outside and he would need a buddy
- keeping it simple and going out for pizza

what do you think?

Spencer update

Here's a picture of all 3 kids loving the spin art. It's rare that I capture one of the 3 of them together plus doing an activity together! One for the memory books for sure. Thanks again Darrin and Lex!

OK Spencer update:

- The overnight EEG found some abnormalities, but the doctors said he didn't have a seizure during the test. Due to those abnormalities though they said he had a risk for seizure activity. No medication was recommended at this point.

- We have a follow up with the original doctor in March and also with the neurologist.

- Spencer is still very prompt dependent. Needing help with day to day tasks in a way he didn't before. He is more animated- will get annoyed at Tyler, throw a fit now and then, get the sillies etc. It is nice to see that part of him coming back to us. :)

- School is about the same, still won't eat at school, but eating better at home. We have a few strategies in place at both places to help him with this issue.

- He's gained some of the weight back. Still a skinny minny, but at least he's getting closer to the graph. He's 64 lbs when I made him step on the scale at the gym. *Sammie was 85 and Tyler was 48 if that gives you a reference! At least he's bigger than Tyler!

I think that's everything. If you were wondering or worrying about anything else in particular give me a ring. Overall we feel the worst is over. He will eat with assistance now so we hope he will continue to gain weight and feel more like himself.

Christmas 2010 part 2

12-14-2010 052

Thomas is a great helper for Spencer.

12-14-2010 055

To Sammie from Spencer- about a 1000 pieces of tissue paper.  She makes crafts out of it.

12-14-2010 061

We got all 3 kids a dinosaur stuffed animal- sneaky me told them no over and over at the store and then went back for them the same day!  They were so surprised!

Other than Sammie’s huge feet at the front of the picture this is the best of the lot of pictures we took for our traditional pj pic.

Here’s the 2nd best, notice the newest members of the family had to be in it:

It takes a lot of silly pictures to make a good one!
